WHY HUNTVE?

The HuntVe 4x4 line of electric and hybrid electric off road UTVs offer the highest quality and proven performance year after year. Using only the best of the best in structure and components, the HuntVe is built to last. Other manufacturers have cut corners and cost by using a single motor and noisy shaft drive system to drive their vehicles.

The HuntVe uses dual direct drive motors that consistently deliver smooth quite power while never over powering a single motor. Word to the wise – don’t consider an electric 4x4 UTV that has only one motor.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTION
  • Where do I get my HuntVe serviced?
At any authorized HuntVe dealer location. There are other alternatives as well for those without close access to an authorized dealer. Contact HuntVe directly for help if needed.
  • How far can I drive off road before I need a charge?
It varies by model depending on the battery pack and other conditions. The best all-electric range is the Electra™ model. Both the Crew (4P) and Utility (2P) 4x4 models sport a 15.3 kWh lithium battery pack. The Electra™ Crew 4x4 will average 35+ miles and the Electa™Utility 4x4 will average 45+ miles – both in moderate off road conditions. The Game Changer™ edition and its 204 amp hour rated flooded lead acid (FLA) battery pack, has up to 20 mile range in moderate terrain. Range is reduced as the FLA battery pack ages, in hilly conditions and in extreme temperatures as well. Remember to always “mature” new FLA battery packs by not exceeding a 50% state of discharge within the first 15 charge cycles. Lithium power vehicles do not need the battery pack to be “matured”. The hybrid Switchback™ Crew with its 15.3 kWh lithium battery pack, in all electric model, will average 30+ miles but you get the benefit of a gas powered on-board generator that will take you another 30+ miles. The Terlingua™and OnRange™ models feature a 7.65 kWh lithium battery pack and is designed for less demanding range requirements. These models expect a 20+ mile range in moderate off roach conditions. Lithium batteries should always stay connected to the charger, or the batteries manually turned off, if in storage without use or charge for more than 2 weeks. Battery warmers are available for best performance in sub-freezing conditions.
  • What is the life expectancy of the battery pack and cost when they need replacement?
The HuntVe™ has 2 battery pack types available. Lithium and Flooded Lead Acid (FLA). The lithium pack has an expected life of 4,000 charge cycles (about 12-15 years for the average HuntVe owner). The FLA has a life expectancy of 350 charge cycles (about 3-4 years for the average HuntVe owner). To replace a 72 volt 15.3 kWh lithium battery pack it would be approximately $6,500 in 2025 USD and FLA replacement would be approximately $3,000 in 2025 USD. Prices are subject to labor rates and other market factors.
  • What is the maintenance requirement for HuntVe™?
There are different requirements depending on if the HuntVe model is all electric, hybrid electric, lithium or flooded lead acid (FLA). A full detail of maintenance requirements are in the owner’s manual. Here are some main tips for an all electric lithium powered HuntVe, the most popular and common configuration. First, the lithium battery pack needs to left plugged into the wall where the charger (110v) will maintain the charge while in storage. If not driving the lithium HuntVe for more than 2 weeks, it is advisable to take the vehicle off charge and turn off the battery pack (see owner’s manual for instructions). Not maintaining the lithium battery charge by keeping it plugged in to keep the charge ‘full’ or manually turning the battery off will cause the battery to go ‘dead’ and become inoperable. Second, get the vehicle back on charge and do not continue to drive if below 10% showing on the lithium battery State of Charge meter located on the dash. In the event the vehicle is completely discharged, or if the vehicle needs to be pushed or towed, ALWAYS PUT THE VEHICLE IN ‘TOW’ MODE. Tow mode disables the regenerative motor(s) allowing them to free wheel and protects the electronics and motor(s) from damage. Pushing or towing the vehicle without engaging the tow mode switch will cause severe vehicle damage and void the warranty. (see owner’s manual for detail) Finally, for those who have flooded the amount of use as well as the ambient temperature determines how often to add water. On average, the water needs to be checked every 2 weeks and can go a little longer in the off season. When the vehicle is in heavy use and the temperature is above 90, check every week. Distilled water is recommended.
  • Does a battery charger come with the HuntVe?
Yes. All HuntVe models have an on-board (110v) automatic smart battery charger for vehicles equipped with either lithium or flooded lead acid (FLA) batteries. Keep your batteries fully charged when possible and do not try to ‘run them down’ before recharging. Batteries like to maintain a full charge. Side note: The Switchback™ 4x4 is the hybrid-electric HuntVe model and can be charged remotely away from the grid with its on-board gas generator. However, it is best to use the range extending on-board gas generator only as a backup charging source and not the primary charging source.
  • What is the electricity requirement for the charger?
    110v/120v – household current
  • Are HuntVes street legal?
No. HuntVes are designed for off road use only.
  • Is auto insurance required for a HuntVe?
Auto insurance is not applicable but other insurance requirements may be appropriate. Check with a licensed agent in your State.
  • Can I store a HuntVe for an extended period of time?
All HuntVe models come with a battery charger (110v) that has a maintainer feature. However, only the lithium battery charger with lithium battery pack has a maintainer designed to keep the batteries from reaching a discharged state and can keep the appropriate charge level for up to 6 months (Note: leaving the vehicle charger plugged into the wall and using the maintainer feature only works if continuous power is available – in the even of a power outage the maintainer will not turn back on without the cored physically being unplugged from the vehicle and re-inserted to start the charge feature again – see owners manual for detail). However, if you know you are going to not use your lithium powered HuntVe for several weeks, it is advisable to turn the battery pack off with the on/off switch located on the battery. Some HuntVe models have more than one battery and both will need to be turned off. When the battery is turned off, the HuntVe can be stored for up to 9 months. HuntVe vehicles equipped with flooded lead acid (FLA) battery packs have a maintainer built into the charger but this system is only effective for a vehicle stored up to 60 days at a time without being driven and run through a longer charge cycle. Storage requirements longer than 60 days at a time may lead to battery sulfation and a significant shorter life expectancy for the entire pack. For best performance from a FLA battery pack, the vehicle should be driven and put through a charge cycle at minimum of once a week.
